National Student Forum

Disabled students

Comment below on the National Student Forum’s vision for a better student experience for disabled students

In our view, if all is working well in the system, a disabled student would be able to say:

  • I can readily access information about the specialist support that is available at a particular university or college
  • I can freely access information about specialist funding
  • I can see that expectations of my ability are based on my performance – and not on preconceptions
  • I can access appropriate learning materials and facilities e.g. transcription and interpretation services, and electronic textbooks
  • My lecturers very their teaching methods for different learning styles and abilities
  • My development needs are recognised and supported, for example, through the use of personal development plans (PDPs)
  • My needs are considered at each step of my education, from enrolment through to graduation
