I had a good experience of most of the teaching where i studied, needless to say, some students i knew on my course didn't share my view. Perhaps it comes down to personal tastes and learning preferences, which are wide ranging. Some people like to be read at - some people like to interact during a lecture and some people dont even attend and just print of the lecture notes to read at home!
